Two Times When It's Best To Purchase Used Tires

Posted on

Getting a flat tire at the start of the business day can be the worst. You may have to head to work, take the children to school, or attend an important meeting, but the tire is completely deflated and you realize you're going to need to put on the spare if you even want to move the vehicle. While the spare is certainly a temporary fix, you know that you will have to purchase another tire. You may think you'll have to spring for a new tire but there are certain cases when it's best to go with a used tire. If you are in any of the following situations you might want to replace your faulty tire with a used version.

Your Other Tires Still Work But Are Starting To Age

If only one of your tires has deflated but the others are still in working condition, it just wouldn't make much sense to purchase a brand new tire. There is a good chance that the remaining tires are on their way out as well and a used tire is probably going to be the better investment in the long run.

It's important for all of your tires to wear down at approximately the same rate. Putting a new tire on a car that has three other aging tires is often a huge mistake. The new tire will then have to bear the majority of the load because vehicles tend to shift more weight onto the tires that can take the heat.

Find a used tire that has about as much tread as your current tires. You'll be saving money that you can put toward a savings fund for when you need a whole new set.

Buying A Used Tire Won't Break The Bank

It's also good to buy used tires because they are usually much more budget-friendly than the new alternatives. You can probably head over to a used car vendor and negotiate a price that is very affordable. This is great if you are in a financial crisis and don't have a lot of money to spare. Pick up that used tire so you're able to stay on the road without busting your wallet.

Buying a used tire is great for the environment. You'll be making the most use out of the material that the tire is made out of and this keeps one more pile of rubber out of the landfill for a longer period of time.
